Description:

Fairfax, VA – El Camino Trailways of San Francisco has expanded its charter and tour operations to Nevada with the acquisition of Aztec Transportation, a motorcoach company based in Carson City since 1999. Now known as El Camino Trailways – Reno/Tahoe, the new company adds Carson City to El Camino Trailways’ California bases in San Francisco and Silicon Valley’s Santa Clara. It also connects the Trailways Transportation System with Lake Tahoe for the first time.

“Acquisition of Aztec and establishment of a new base of operation in Nevada are very strategic to our plan to expand and extend our tour and travel, conventions, and corporate event charter services into the Lake Tahoe and Reno markets,” said Kumar Shah, El Camino Trailways chairman. “After evaluating several acquisition opportunities, we selected Aztec for its strong presence in these markets and strength of its customer relationships.”

El Camino Trailways offers charters for corporate and cultural events, airport transfers, and Amtrak Thruway service connecting Stockton, San Francisco, and San Jose. Shuttle contract services for the University of California at Berkeley, adventure/sports outings, religious retreats, school trips, and group destination tours are also in El Camino’s charter services repertoire, as are day and overnight trips to Oregon, Washington State, British Columbia, and national parks throughout the West. Established in 1962, the company is one of the oldest and largest charter motorcoach operators in Northern California.

El Camino Trailways – Reno/Tahoe joins other Nevada Trailways affiliates - Amador Trailways of Reno, and Silver State Trailways of Las Vegas - in offering customers a well-rounded fleet of modern motorcoaches and U. S. Department of Defense-approved standards for safety and service that are exemplary in the transportation industry.  The newest Trailways member operates casino and ski resort shuttles, transit and “Dial-a-Ride” services for the Town of Truckee, and commuter transit services between Carson Valley and South Lake Tahoe as part of its “BlueGO” Tahoe regional transit service in addition to its connections with California destinations.

“With our new base in Nevada, we are ideally positioned to serve the San Francisco Bay Area, Silicon Valley, the San Jose-Stockton-Sacramento corridor, as well as the San Francisco- Lake Tahoe-Reno corridors,” said Mike Watson, managing director of El Camino Trailways. “The merger adds the very attractive tourism venues of Lake Tahoe and Reno to the popular destinations we serve.”
