NREL releases hybrid transit bus evaluation
The Fleet Test and Evaluation Team at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has published a comprehensive report detailing the first two years in-service performance of hybrid buses operated by Long Beach (Calif.) Transit (LBT).The report, “Long Beach Transit: Two-Year Evaluation of Gasoline-Electric Hybrid Transit Buses," focuses on the use of LBT’s use of hybrids between July 2005 and June 2007, compared to older conventionally powered diesel buses the agency already had in service.
LBT’s hybrid buses are produced by New Flyer and equipped with ISE’s ThunderVolt series hybrid drive system and powered by a V10 gasoline engine.
